FLUSHING – Back in 2013, the Flushing Rotary Club was able to install brand new seating in the amphitheater through fundraisers and sponsorships. Now, with another community project on the horizon, the Club is calling again for the public’s help.

The Rotary Club has around half of the approximately 400 seats in the amphitheater sponsored – a major help in constructing the updates – and would like to continue the effort.

A form can be found through the Rotary Club’s website to sponsor the seats. Sponsors will receive a plaque on the seat detailing their information (whether it be a personal sponsor or in memoriam).

The Rotary Club orchestrated fundraising efforts for the $170,000 project for several years, including hosting their annual “Duckie Race” during Summerfest. The fund was created by the Greater Community of Flint and the donations are tax deductible.

Eric Gasper, a member of the Rotary Club instrumental in the fundraising for the seating project, said the Rotary Club does not have a definite plan yet but things are in the works.

The seating project is just one example of the Flushing Rotary Club providing a much-needed service to the community; and one Gasper is proud of. The Riverview Park amphitheater, where most of the large events (including Concerts in the Park) are held, had benches prior to the installation of new seats.

“They provided no back support,” said Gasper.
