Photo by Brtandon Pope FLINT TWP. — The Swartz Creek/ Clio/Flushing co-op hockey squad pulled out a key win at Iceland Arena on Saturday, knocking off visiting Port Huron, 4-3. The game was tight all the way though, as it remained tied 1-1 after one period and 3-3 after two frames. In net, Kyle Carpenter got the win with 35 saves.

Joe Montpas got the first goal for SCF, assisted by Trevor Sauve and Gavyn Goad before Montpas got on the board again with help from Stefano Schippono and Sauve. Sauve finally got his own tally with help from Connor McLeod and Montpas and the game-winner came off the stick of McLeod, assisted by Brendan Fain.

The SCF hockey team played a good game but couldn’t get past the Alliance (Goodrich/Lakeville/Dryden/North Branch/Imlay City) in a 6-3 loss at home last Wednesday.

Montpas notched the first goal with help from Derek Moore and Sauve before Moore tallied a goal of his own, assisted by Kamryn Houle and Tanner Porter. Sauve then buried one off of a feed from Porter and McLeod.

“We entered the third period tied 3-3 and had a few chances to win it but missed a couple of key opportunities,” said coach Ben Guzak. “The chances they had they capitalized on. Overall the team played well and gave great effort.” — B.P.
