The Lady Raiders faced Swartz Creek for the second time in five days when they met in Wednesday night’s semifinals of the Class A district tournament at St. Johns. Both teams had a bye in first round, and Wednesday’s game was played after VIEW deadlines.

Flushing beat Swartz Creek twice during the Metro League season, both times by 12 points, including last Friday’s 45-33 win at Flushing.

Lauren Newman scored nine points, all on 3-pointers in the second quarter, when the Raiders outscored the Dragons 19-7 to take a 27-15 halftime lead. The teams played dead even in the second half, 12-12 in the third quarter and 6-6 in the fourth.

Shelby Morrow added seven points. Clare Glowniak added six points and nine rebounds as Flushing outrebounded Creek 32-23. Carson Wilson also scored six points and Kamryn Chappell had five. The Raiders forced 23 turnovers.

The win completed a second straight 14-0 season in the Metro League for the Lady Raiders, who cut down the nets at one end of the gym while the boys’ team cut down the other net after beating Creek to clinch its own outright Metro championship.

Flushing’s girls took an 18-2 overall record into the district. Creek went in at 10-9. Host St. Johns (18- 3) ousted winless Owosso 52-18 in Monday’s only first-round game and played Carman-Ainsworth (15-5) in Wednesday’s other semifinal game. The district final will be at 7 p.m. Friday.

The district champion advances to a regional semifinal game at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Owosso against the winner of the Davison district.
