Seth Crompton got SCF’s first goal of the night with the help of Jake Castles before Castles netted his own goal, assisted by Nik Calugaru. Brendan Ogle fired one home with the help of Calugaru and Kam Houle got the final goal, assisted by Dylan Stankewicz.

“The boys played hard and continue to improve,” said SCF coach Ben Guzak.

SCF hosts the FNV Griffins (Freeland/Saginaw Nouvel/Saginaw Valley Lutheran) on Saturday. – B.P.

SWIMMING: The Swartz Creek/ Flushing boys’ swim team fell short against Flint Powers last Thursday losing 102-72.

Jacob Macinnis, Josh Stemczynski, Peter Adams and Dan Burkhardt took second in the 200 medley relay finishing in 1:50.44. Carson Gardner, Ethan Hembruch, Ian Barbour and Thomas Burkhardt were third in 2:11.98. Adams won the 200 IM in 2:25.40 and D. Burkhardt was second in 2:26.42. D. Burkhardt then took second in the 50 free in 26.13.

Steffen Hembruch won the 1-meter diving and Stemczynski was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.59 with Barbour third in 1:04.49. Barbour then placed second in the 100 free in 59.56. Macinnis took second in the 500 free in 6:20.01 and Stemczynski, D. Burkhardt, Adams and Barbour won the 200 free relay in 1:39.86. Stemczynski placed second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.85 and Adams was third in 1:13.03. In the final event, Hunter Moore, Brennen Parker, Carson Gardner and Macinnis were third in 4:32.54. — L.P.

WRESTLING: The Flushing wrestling team had a successful day at the Saginaw Heritage Invite on Saturday, going 5-0. The Raiders defeated Bay City Central, 48-25, Heritage A squad, 65-12, Heritage B squad, 78-0, Midland Dow, 55-19, and Swan Valley, 72-12.

Flushing had seven wrestlers go undefeated on the day. At 103 lbs., Treyton Gabold won by forfeit over Bay City Central and the Heritage B squad and by fall against Heritage A, Midland Dow and Swan Valley. Brennen Herr, 119 lbs., won by forfeit against Bay City Central, Heritage B, Midland Dow and Swan Valley and by fall against Heritage A.

At 125 lbs., Luke Maurer was also 5-0, defeating Bay City Central by a 6-3 decision, forfeit against Swan Valley and by fall against Heritage A, Heritage B and Midland Dow. Matthew Juhl, competing at 140, defeated Bay City Central and Heritage B by fall, Heritage A by a 12-1 major decision, Midland Dow by a 9-4 decision and forfeit against Swan Valley.

Braxton Gabold competed at both 145 and 152 lbs., also finishing undefeated. Gabold won a 6-2 decision against Bay City Central and tallied wins by fall against Heritage A, Midland Dow and Swan Valley as well as a win by forfeit against Heritage B. Ben Cushman, who competed at 189 and 215 lbs., beat Bay City Central and Swan Valley by fall, Heritage A by a 13-2 major decision, Midland Dow by a 13-2 major decision and Heritage B by forfeit. At 285 lbs., Conner Melancon won by fall against Bay City Central, Heritage A, Midland Dow and Swan Valley as well as by forfeit over Heritage B.

Flushing also saw numerous wrestlers tally just one loss, including Sullivan Miller at 112 lbs. Miller won by forfeit against Heritage A, Heritage B, Midland Dow and by fall against Swan Valley. At 130 lbs., Chance Wilson won a 7-0 decision against Heritage A, by fall against Midland Dow and by forfeit against Heritage B and Swan Valley.

At 160 lbs., Bradley Zaraw defeated Heritage A, Heritage B and Swan Valley by fall and Bay City Central by forfeit. Devin Powells, 171 lbs., defeated Bay City Central and Heritage A by fall and Heritage B and Swan Valley by forfeit. Jeremy Parker, who wrestled at 215 and 189 lbs., defeated Heritage B and Midland Dow by fall and Heritage A and Swan Valley by forfeit.

Flushing faced Holly and Kearsley on Wednesday following press deadlines and will host the Flushing Invite on Saturday. — K.R.
