DPW begins curbside leaf collection

FLUSHING —The Flushing Department of Public Works began curbside leaf collection on Oct. 22 and will continue through Nov. 30.

After the leaf collection truck and crew have passed your house during the week of Nov. 26, you are asked to suspend raking leaves to the curb.

Leaves must be raked into the curb of the street. The DPW leaf collection truck and crew will begin collection at one side of the city and work towards the opposite side of the city. This process is highly variable and it is impossible to gauge exactly when any particular street and or subdivision will be done.

It is important to note that critical situations, such as a water main break or a sewer backup, take precedent and curbside leaf collection will be interrupted/ suspended until the critical situation is resolved.

During the leaf collection season, it is important for residents to keep catch basins, drains and manholes clear and free of debris and leaves.

Waste Management has informed the City of Flushing that their last day of yard waste/bagged leaves collection will be the week of Nov. 12-13. — B.G.
