Flushing harriers look for regional success

Photo by David Roe SAGINAW – The Flushing cross country team will compete at the Div. 1 regional meet at Delta College in Saginaw on Saturday. Along with Flushing, Alpena, Bay City Western, Bay City Central, Davison, Carman-Ainsworth, Lapeer, Midland, Midland Dow, Mt. Pleasant, Saginaw Arthur Hill, Saginaw Heritage, Swartz Creek, Traverse City Central and Traverse City West will all be in attendance.

The top three teams and the top 15 individuals in each region will secure a spot at the Div. 1 state finals held at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn on Nov. 3.

Many Raiders have taken turns leading the Flushing pack at meets throughout the season. Jordan Buckner recently record a 16:39.1 personal record at the Kayla O’Mara Invite on Oct. 13. He also has four top-10 finishes this season. Carter Johnson ran a personal record of 16:56.5 at the Sept. 29 A2 Coaching Legends Classic. Nolan Herr has also been at the top of the pack for Flushing, running a personal-best of 17:08.1 at the Bret Clements Bath Invite on Sept. 8. Hunter Markel, Kaz Goldyn, Antonio Aguilar and Braedan Tunnicliff will also look to make an impact during Saturday’s regional.

For the Lady Raiders, Ellie Reynolds and Thailyia Christensen have battled to lead Flushing all season long. Christensen has a personal-best of 19:05.9, which she ran at the Kayla O’Mara Invite on Oct. 13, while Reynolds has a season-best of 19:21.3, which she just ran at the Oct. 17 Flint Metro League Championship. Lauren Smith has consistently been running within the 20-minute mark all season with a personal-best of 20:15.5. Other Flushing runners who will add to the Raiders’ regional success are Riley Gaudet, Keeli Lindstrom, Olivia Groulx and Kelsey Wagner.
