Photo by Jack Ransom HOLLAND – The Flushing boys’ tennis team placed 12th at the Div. 2 state meet at Hope College Friday-Saturday. Okemos won with 37 points, Birmingham Groves and Birmingham Seaholm tied for second with 23 and Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern was fourth with 19. Midland Dow was fifth with 17, Mattawan sixth with 14 and Portage Northern and Detroit U-D Jesuit tied for seventh with 13. Battle Creek Lakeview and Traverse City Central tied in ninth with 10 each and Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central was 11th with eight. Flushing earned six points in 12th, Byron Center, Gibraltar Carlson and Holly tied for 13th with five each, Grosse Pointe North had four points in 16th, East Lansing had three in 17th and Auburn Hills Avondale, Muskegon Mona Shores and Warren DeLaSalle had two each in 18th. Allen Park, Berkley, Dearborn Crestwood, Fenton and Port Huron all tied at 21st with a single point apiece. Wyandotte Roosevelt was 26th with no points.

In Singles, Andrew Kearney beat East Lansing at No. 1 7-6(4), 2-6, 7-6(5), then lost to Birmingham Groves 6-0, 6-0. Scott Branham drew a bye at No. 2, then lost to Mattawan 6-2, 6-1. Chase Ward at No. 3 beat Wyandotte Roosevelt 6-2, 6-3, then lost to Okemos 6-0, 6-0. At No. 4, Ryan Mignerey lost to Forest Hills Central 6-0, 6-3.

In Doubles, Jake Besko-Matt Birchmeier beat Byron Center 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-3 at No. 1, then lost to Okemos 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2, Jack Killingbeck-William Wykes beat Okemos 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 before losing against Okemos 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3, Torey Barber-Tate Bowers beat Wyandotte Roosevelt 6-0, 6-0, then lost to Okemos 6-0, 6-0. At No. 4, Cameron Grey- Reid Plamondon lost to Traverse City Central 6-1, 6-3. – L.P.
